Brian Marshall

Brian Marshall is starting is 7th year of coaching at RBA South. He played his high school ball locally at Manchester High School where he earned a scholarship to play at Virginia Commonwealth University.
He spent 3 years with the VCU Rams, earning the closer role for his last 2 seasons. In 2002, he lead VCU to its first ever CAA Conference Championship on his way to setting CAA Tournament records for Appearances (6) and Saves (4) and garnering CAA Tournament MVP and National Player of the Week honors. During that same season, Brian was a 1st Team All-CAA Selection, a member of the VaSiD All-State Team and ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region Team while setting the VCU and CAA single-season record in appearances (41) and leading the conference in saves (10). In 2003, Brian set the VCU single-season record for saves (12) and was ranked 2nd in the nation for strikeouts per nine innings (13.5), helping the 2003 VCU pitching staff lead the NCAA in ERA. He was later drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 5th round of the 2003 draft alongside his twin brother Sean, who was taken in the 6th round and currently pitches for the Chicago Cubs.
Professionally, Brian spent over 3 years in the Red Sox farm system, reaching High A Sarasota and amassing a career record of 6-2 with 8 saves, and ERA of 2.56 in 91.1 innings, and striking out 97 while allowing only 69 hits. He suffered a shoulder injury early in his career, and was released by the Red Sox in 2006. In the summer of 2007, Brian played for the Chillicothe Paints of the Frontier League. He still ranks 4th in the VCU Career ERA List, 5th in Career Games Pitched, and 3rd in Career Saves. In 2009 Brian was inducted into the VCU Baseball Hall of Fame. Brian also spent time as the pitching coach for American Legion Post 361 in 2006.
